Calm down your nervous system!
Feeling stressed, anxious and frazzled? Here’s 4 things you can do to help you calm your nervous system NOW! Bonus: they’re all free!
4-7-8 Breathing:
Breathe in for 4 counts, hold for 7 and breathe out for 8. This way of breathing helps us reconnect with our body and stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (entering your rest & digest era) & gets you out of the sympathetic dominant state (bye bye, fight or flight).
Go for a walk:
Sometimes a walk can do wonders for anxiety and nervous energy. Pop your favourite music on and go for a 20 minute walk. Exercise in general helps to release endorphins to make you feel good & reduce feelings of stress.
Shake it out:
Literally just shake your body. It will feel silly at first, but just shake in any way that feels good. This is another way to get rid of excess energy that can feel like anxiety or nervousness. Bounce up and down, shimmy your shoulders, shake all around. Bonus points if you can do this in your back yard, in the sun with your feet on the ground!
Talk about it:
Call a friend or family member that you can trust and talk about whats on your mind… or just have a laugh with them.
The nervous system plays an enormous role in our overall health and wellbeing. A dysregulated nervous system and high levels of stress can cause effect our gut microbiome, digestion, sleep, hormone health, immune system and more!
